1. Love Jones
I love a great love story. Love Jones stole my heart a long time ago. The love, the poetry, the blackness, just everything. I'm a poet myself, so that sold me. And the concept of a tight knit friend group is forever my favorite. But yea, I wish they would've done a part 2 because Nia Long and Larenz Tate still fine AF lol
2. Aladdin
My childhood FAVORITE movie. I don't even know why I love it so much. It's a great movie. When I was little, I had Aladdin everything lol. Bike, underwear, I was even Jasmin for Halloween lol. I think my favorite character now is the Genie, but as a kid, I was #TeamJasmin all day
3. Beyond the Lights
This is my new updated Love Story. I looovvveee this movie. The whole concept and storyline stole my heart. The approach at addressing mental health and the not so perfect side of stardom. Also, the finding peace, centering yourself and addressing your issues. I love this movie from top to bottom. I was so hype when they added it to Netflix and too hurt when they removed it amid the Nate Parker controversy. But I bought the DVD sooooo *shrugs*
4. ATL
Be clear, this my movie though lol. I have a thing for country accents. A hood love story. Lauren London was so cute. I loved Esquires character lol. I could go on forever about this movie lol. So many quotables. And I thought Ant was SO cute. Who don't love ATL?!
5. Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins
Aye, this movie is funny. Y'all know I'm big on family so this was right up my alley. The whole story concept was really interesting. I couldn't see myself dating and marrying anyone who didn't like my family. But this movie makes me crack up every time lol
6. Brown Sugar
Another love story, I know. I'm a sucker for love lol. Then you mix love with music.... you got me hooked fasho. When did you first fall in love with hip hop? I swear I wanted her job. I think my favorite character was Cav, especially with his crush on Queen Latifah's character lol. Loved it
7. Cinderella
I pretty sure all of us black girls enjoyed this movie. Two sanging sisters lol. The lovely Brandy and the amazing Whitney Houston. I just really loved seeing this storyline in color lol
8. The Wood
Mackin' and Hangin' lol. I had never seen this movie and funny enough, the youth minister at my church showed it to us during one of our bible study classes. I thought it was really funny and I really liked it. I don't have a list of reasons for this one lol
9. The Devil Wears Prada
Fashionnnnnnnnn! I just love fashion. I love a good makeover and I love a good glow-up. This movie had all 3 of those things. I couldn't imagine being Amanda Priestley's assistant lol, but I guess if you love what you do, you'll do whatever it takes
10. The Intern
A newer fave lol. The concept of a senior intern is just very interesting. I think the concept offers a much needed dose of wisdom. Plus I love Anne Hathaway
